AMVETS LADIES AUXILIARY
DEPARTMENT OF OHIO
INDIVIDUAL AND AUXILIARY AWARDS ROSTER  

To qualify for any of the following awards, the following criteria MUST be met:

  1. The combination donation of $2.60 per member, per year, may be sent as early as September 1st and must be received by Department Headquarters by December 31st.
  2. The semi-annual and annual service reports required each year for the service programs (Child Welfare, Community Service, Americanism, Hospital and Scholarship) must be in the hands of the corresponding Department Officer by the established deadline.
  3. Each award requiring an entry form must be on the most current form and received by the correct person designated on the application.

Membership Awards

  1. Department Membership Pins to:
    1. Green pin to Auxiliary members signing up 10 new, renew or combined members.
    2. White pin to Auxiliary members signing up 11 or more new, renew or combined members.
  2. Plaques to:
    1. PDP Betty Welsh Memorial Award Class A, for the Auxiliary (with total membership (70-114) signing up the most new members, donated by PDP Barbara McCrory.
    2. PDP Connie Hutchinson Award Class B, for the Auxiliary (with total membership 45-69) signing up the most new members.
    3. PDP Wanda Hatcher Award Class C, for the Auxiliary (with total membership 30-44) signing up the most new members.
    4. PDP Shirley Greenfelder Award Class D, for the Auxiliary (with total membership 10-29) signing up the most new members.
    5. PDP Dianatha Snavely Award Class E, for the Auxiliary (with total membership 115 & over) signing up the most new members.
    6. Department of Ohio Award for the Ladies Auxiliary (ies) reaching 200 members for the first time.
    7. PDP Linda Dailey Award to the Auxiliary (ies) reaching 300 members for the first time.
    8. PDP Lynn Hurtt Barbarotta Award to the Auxiliary (ies) reaching 400 members for the first time.
    9. Department of Ohio PDP Gayle Neal Award to the Auxiliary (ies) reaching 500 members for the first time.
    10. PDP Betty Kelley Award to the Auxiliary(ies) reaching 600 members for the first time.

3.  Certificates to:
a. The Department of Ohio Award for the Ladies Auxiliary (ies) having 100% renewal and gain in membership.
b. The Department of Ohio Award for the Ladies Auxiliary (ies) having the greatest percentage of increase in membership.
c. The Department of Ohio Award for the member(s) signing up the most new members.

Child Welfare Awards

  1. Plaques to:
    1. Department of Ohio Award to the Ladies Auxiliary with the Most Outstanding Child Welfare Program to an Auxiliary with 150 or more Members.*
    2. Department of Ohio Award to the Ladies Auxiliary with the Most Outstanding Child Welfare Program to an Auxiliary with less than 150 Members.*
    3. PDP Dortha Williams Child Welfare Award to the Ladies Auxiliary with the Most Outstanding Year in Child Welfare to and Auxiliary with 50 members or less.
    4. PDP Theresa Servitelli Award to the Ladies Auxiliary for the Most Creative Single Child Welfare Project to an Auxiliary with more than 50 members.

Child Welfare Junior AMVET Awards

  1. Plaques to:
    1. Department of Ohio Award to the Junior AMVET Unit with the most outstanding work for the John Tracey Clinic.*
    2. PDP Cherry Turner Award to the Junior AMVET Unit with the Most Outstanding Project for the benefit of children.

Community Service Awards

  1. Plaques to:
    1. Department of Ohio Award to the Ladies Auxiliary with the Most Outstanding Community Service Program for an Auxiliary with 150 members or more.*

Americanism Awards

    1. Department of Ohio Award to the Ladies Auxiliary with the Most Outstanding Americanism Program for an Auxiliary with 150 or more members.*
    2. Department of Ohio Award to the Ladies Auxiliary with the Most Outstanding Americanism Program for an Auxiliary with less than 150 members.*
    3. PDP Mollie D. Eusey Americanism Award An Award for an Individual Displaying Outstanding Work in Americanism
    1. PDP Lillian Jackson SOS (Serving Our Service People) Award to the Auxiliary with the Most Outstanding SOS Program.

Hospital Awards

  1. Plaques to:
    1. Department of Ohio PDP Freida Baehr Memorial Award to the Ladies Auxiliary with the Most Outstanding work at a VA Medical Center.*
    2. Department of Ohio PDP Kathryn Snyder Award to the Ladies Auxiliary with the Most Outstanding Hospital Program.*
    3. Department of Ohio Individual Nursing Home or Hospital Award is presented to the member(s) with the best program benefiting Non-VA Nursing Home or Hospitalized Veterans. (Veterans only; not patients).
    4. PDP Lila Longworth Memorial Award is presented to the Auxiliary with the most hours served in a Non-VA Medical Center.  Donated by PDP Dorothy Acker.
    5. PDP Eileen Hoffman Award is presented to the Auxiliary with the Most Outstanding work in a contracted nursing home.

 

Scholarship Awards

  1. Plaque to:
    1.  PDP Betty Turk Award is presented to the Auxiliary with the Most Outstanding Scholarship Program.
    2. PDP Barbara McCrory Award is presented to the Auxiliary member performing the Most Outstanding work for Scholarship.

 

Scholarships Available by Department of Ohio

  1. Depart of Ohio, Betty J. and Paul C. Welsh Memorial Scholarship awarded to the children or grandchildren of an Auxiliary member in at least their second year of college.
  2. AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary Department of Ohio Scholarships awarded to students in their second year or higher of college.
  3. Department of Ohio Career Start Scholarship awarded to an Auxiliary member who is a non-traditional student, re-entering the work force, starting a new career or changing careers later in life.  This does not include Master’s Degree studies.

 

Pro-Historian Awards

  1. Plaques to:
    1. The Department of Ohio Award presented to the Ladies Auxiliary with the Most Outstanding History/Scrapbook.
    2. PDP Beverly Box award for the District with the Most Outstanding History/Scrapbook. 
    3. PDP Edith Mills Award for the Local PRO/Historian of the Year.
    4. PDP Joan Harshbarger Award for the Most Outstanding Local History/Scrapbook cover.

Additional Awards

  1. Plaques to:
    1. The Gavelier’s Award is presented to the Auxiliary of the Year. This award is presented at the Banquet on Saturday night at Department Convention.
    2. PDP Patty Piening Leadership Award presented to a Local President of an Auxiliary with 150 or more members, who has displayed Outstanding Leadership skills.
    3. PDP Patty Piening Leadership Award presented to a Local President of an Auxiliary with less than 150 members, who has displayed Outstanding Leadership skills.
    4. PNP Mary Stanton Memorial Award is presented to the Auxiliary member of the year.  Donated by PDP Barbara McCrory.
    5. PDP Linda Johnston Leadership Award for the Most Outstanding District President.
    6. PDP Marlene Klinefelter Award is presented to the All Around Youth who has volunteered in service programs.
    7. The Bob Hurtt Sr. Memorial Leadership Award is presented to the Junior AMVET demonstrating outstanding leadership skills.  Donated by Lynn Hurtt Barbarotta.

 

An Honor and Awards Chairman shall be appointed each year by the Auxiliary President.  The Chairman’s duties are to purchase plaques, trophies, certificates, etc., to be presented at the awards program at the Department Convention.  The list of award winners will be given to her by the President. 
The Honors and Awards Chairman shall make updates to the procedures and award roster and hand it in to the President at the end of her term so that the necessary changes are included in the guidebook.  The Awards Chairman is in the charge of the Award Ceremony at Department Convention; the theme is chosen by the President. She shall hand out printed programs with spaces for the members to write in the winner’s names.  The program order shall follow the Award Roster in the guidebook. 
The Awards Chairman receives three (3) days per diem at Mid-Winter Conference and Department Convention, if she attends all required meetings including the Honors and Awards judging meeting.
